Here is the story of Velma’s farm from ACODIHUE!

Velma Roberta Ordoñez Pérez: An Empowered Woman in Organic Coffee Production

Originally from the village of El Pajal, San Antonio Huista, Velma has found strong support and empowerment in the Awal Nan Women's Network to help her family get ahead.

Velma grew up in a community where women had few opportunities to participate in decision-making and coffee production. However, she always had a passion for the land and coffee. With the support of her family, Velma began working on her husband's plot, learning everything related to coffee cultivation.

Thirteen years ago, Velma joined the Awal Nan Women's Network, an organization that seeks to empower women in coffee production. Through the Network, she received training in organic production, leadership, and business management. She also found a space to share experiences and challenges with other women coffee producers.

The Awal Nan Women's Network is an association affiliated with ACODIHUE, which is 100% women-owned and run by women. ACODIHUE created this association so that women can have a space for training, capacity building, dialogue, and decision-making that supports their development. They currently represent 65% of the organization's total membership.
